Adolescent and Youth Empowerment
India is a predominantly young country, with one in five people being an adolescent. However, many adolescents and youth face specific challenges related to health, education, skill development, and employment, particularly within the NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) category.
This issue is exacerbated by a lack of strategic programmes focused on their empowerment and development. Adolescent girls, in particular, are vulnerable due to the burdens of unpaid work, social taboos and early or child marriage.
Our work with adolescent and youth aims to:
- Engage them in climate action awareness and ground-level initiatives to prevent forest fires
- Mobilise and build their leadership skills
- Enhance their understanding of nutrition, menstrual health, education, decision-making as well as the Indian Constitution
- Prevent child marriages
- Facilitate their representation in local governance
- Ensure they can interface with government officials to address their issues
